Well, saw my neurologist today after being prescribed the Trileptal one month ago. He was very pleased with my response to the drug and how much it had helped me with the stapedial clicking.
He wants me to start tapering off the Clonazepam slowly and if the clicking starts again to double my dose of Trileptal. We'll see how it goes.
He said he relates this symptom to hemifacial spasms, or eye tics, in that category. That's why he Rx'd the Trileptal and I think he was right!
He thought a study would be interesting but there just aren't enough people who have this problem. He only skimmed over the medical papers I brought him but didn't keep them. Said he was inundated with paper! But that's when he mentioned the facial and eye spasms.
He said something about the blood vessels or veins in the back of the neck that sometimes can be corrected surgically to correct the problem but didn't recommend that for me since I was responding to medicines.
I go back to see him in 3 months. My only concern about going off the Clonazepam is that my tinnitus may get worse but I'll stay positive and wait and see how it goes.
That's my story, Karen
