Hello,
I am not quite sure what I have to be honest with you. Unfortunatly, my doctor hasn't been able to send me to a good ENT. I have seen six thus far, but I have found a dentist who is treating me for TMJD and he is sending me to a "good" ENT for a whole whack of testing.
My story begins a year ago, ironically I went to 2 concerts back-to-back, close to the stage and it was LOUD. However, I didn't start having my problems till a month or so later -- I ma hoping that the concerts didn't cause this, and I have been told by doctors that it probably didn't as my hearing is fine and the fact that I would have felt the problems right after the concert. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Of course, I went to another concert in December without issue as well.
Last September I was diagnosed with a middle ear infection. I was off work for a week as I was dizzy, ear pain and tinntuis that sounded like wind. I then started to notice clicking in my ears -- when people talked, or I was watching TV. It would come and go. Anyways, my very first sign of a problem was when I was listening to music in my car. After awhile of exposure my right ear started to feel "full" and I would have to turn the music down or off to make it go away. That's when I started to get the middle ear infection as well.
After that week of hell, my ears have never been the same. These days, the fullness is still present in my right ear. After any exposure to music or loud sounds , my ear fills right up and hurts. The clicking however is in my left ear only. As I type this message, my ear is "clicking" or "thumping" away. After each key I press, it just thumps.
I also have tinnitus that sounds like wind is blowing in my head. It's weird because the tinnitus increases when I exert myself -- bending over to pick something up makes it roar. Going to the washroom as embarrasing as that sounds makes it roar..
I went to a dentist to see if it was TMJD releated. Turns out that my right TMJ joint was out of whack. My left was off a bit, so I have been wearing a splint for a month now -- no help for the ear problems but I sleep like a baby these days and I don't snore. He wants me on the splint for at least 3 - 4 months..
Another struggle has been my sensitivity to noise. Dishes, car keys, people clapping -- ALL make my right ear hurt. It fills up and aches. I also experience popping and clicking in my ears during the day, and what feels like changing of pressure.
So, here is a list of my symptoms. What do you think:
- Ear Fullness
- Ear Fullness after noise exposure
- Ear Noise (wind sound)
- Pulsating Tinnitus
- Tinnitus (ringing in ears)
- Ear Spasms (fluttering)
- Ear "clicking" when hearing sounds
- Ear "popping". It's like I can feel my E-Tubes closing and opening on their own. This can also be caused by breathing, I can sometimes lock it in where I can breathe and feel it open/closing
- Hyperacusis (sensitivity to noise)
Thanks for listening!
