G'day, My girlfriend has a constant steady clicking in her ear. It has constantly been clicking for the last couple of years. If she trys she can stop it clicking, but natually it clicks. If i put my ear on hers i can hear it click. She lives with it but it annoys her sometimes. she doesn't want to go to the doctor because she doesn't want stuff shoved down her throat or nose. anyone have any ideas what this may be? should i make her go to the doctors? Cheers for any help.

Sounds like middle ear myoclonus to me. Either the stapedial or tensor tympani muscle could be contracting and making an audible sound, which can be detected outside the ear. It is interesting, though, that she is able to make it stop. How is that done?
