I tried it about 1 /1/2 yrs ago. My neuro put me on it for the nerve damage in my leg(before trying the Neurontin lol) He said it seems to help with it, PLUS it would help me to quit smoking as well. After about 1 week on it, I wound up going to the ER via ambulance!! I was having bad chest pains, severe dizziness and lightheadedness, felt like I was going to pass out, my heart was RACING and I felt so out of it! I was on my bed curled into a fetal position! Hubby called an ambulance. It was all VERY scary! My BP was quite high and unstable. They gave me meds in the er and I could tell by the doc's face that he was quite concerned when at one point, something happened with my blood pressure. He ordered more meds pushed STAT! I wound up staying in the hospital for 5 days!!! Had to go through all kinds of tests as due to my medical history w/Lupus and such, they didn't know what was wrong! It turned out, that I had a severe reaction to the Zyban!! They had continued my needed meds in the hospital for the high blood pressure I have to begin with-Cardizem. Plus my Lupus meds, minus the Zyban since it was the newest one I was on-guess they figured it could be that since I had only just started taking it...which turned out to be a good thing! Cause if I kept getting the Zyban, who knows what would have happened! It was VERY scary for me and my kids that night I went by ambulance. I thought 'that's it...I'm dying.' I could see the fear and worry in my children's and hubby's eyes that night and I think that scared me even more than what I was going through. Anyways, that's my Zyban story. Its now written boldly across my files as having a severe allergic reation to that drug. The best way for me to quit smoking has always been cold turkey...as I sit here puffing away...I know, I know...stupid! lol But I HAVE to quit and soon, says my rheumy-"Quit or die" has an affect when said to you by more than one doc. lol If your friend decides to try it, just tell her to be careful and watch for signs of an allergic reaction! *hugs* Cathy

No, I have never tried Zyban but since it is the same drug as Welbutrin for depression I always thought "if my ears get really bad again and cause depression like in the past" I would try it and hope it would help me quit smoking too. My fear is that one of the side effects is that it can cause seizures! Scary Karen
